Pixel Practice

On holiday in the Lake District the hills had a lot of pink and purple flowers. It was so scenic. I tried to capture those distant clusters of colour in the hills on this little pixel piece.

The single flower I actually made some time ago, my first attempt at pixel art if we don’t count the icons I made back in 2007 for a long long lost website.

The nice thing about making these little pixel pieces is I can do them on my phone and the small screen really makes me concentrate on colour choice and blocking out areas early on for composition. I can see a lot of benefits to treating these like thumbnails, which I always try to add too much detail too. There’s no choice but to focus on colour and composition in pixel art of this scale.
